Book Group’s 2016 Schedule

Join us  in our Yuuth Room Sunday, May 22 at 6:30 pm to discuss James McBride’s book, The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother.  As a young boy, one of 12 brothers and sisters, growing up in Brooklyn’s Red Hook projects in the 1960’s, James asked his mother if he was black or white. She answered, “You’re a human being, educate yourself or you’ll be a nobody!”  In this very moving and well written narrative James tells his mother’s story and his own with honesty and humor.  It is an extraordinary story how a rabbi’s daughter, born in Poland and raised in the South, moved to Harlem, married a black man and put all 12 of her children through college. Brian McPherson will lead the discussion.  Questions: Contact Richard Bronakoski at richardbronakoski@gmail.com.
