The winner of five 2015 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, FUN HOME is based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir of the same title. This groundbreaking autobiographical production introduces us to Alison (best known for the long-running comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For”) at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family that connect with her in surprising new ways. The New York Times calls the story “heart-gripping and cathartic,” and says that “FUN HOME occupies the place where we all grew up.”
In years past, our own David M. Glasgow has performed lead roles in A Little Night Music, Anything Goes, Godspell, Bat Boy: The Musical, and The Secret Garden, but his role as “Bruce” (Alison’s closeted father) in FUN HOME will mark his first onstage lead in nearly a decade.
Simply put, it’s a show you won’t want to miss. And if you purchase your tickets to the October 7 performance through UUCV, $10 of each $30 ticket will benefit the LGBT Center of Central PA. They (and we) thank you for your support!
NOTE: While the cast of FUN HOME includes actors as young as 9 years old, and the piece is full of humor and upbeat music, parents may wish to consider whether younger audience members will be comfortable with the images of parental anger, suicide, and lesbian sexuality that appear in the course of the story.
You can reserve your tickets and take advantage of the LGBT Center benefit by clicking here. Or, if you’re Google-Forms-phobic, David or Cindy will be happy to take a reservation for you. Either way, payment must be received by Sunday, October 1 if we are to take advantage of the LGBT Center benefit.
If you are unable to attend the October 7 performance, please consider attending one of the other performances! We’re not able to offer the LGBT Center benefit for other dates, but you’ll be glad you didn’t miss this wonderful production! Tickets for all performances are available on the Open Stage website at openstagehbg.com/funhome. Tell David UUCV sent you!
