Peace

Our Special Progams

Coming of Age and Our Whole Lives

Many religions acknowledge the approaching adulthood of their adolescents by accompanying them through a Coming of Age ritual, and UUCV is no exception. Yearly we alternate two optional programs for 7th and 8th graders: (1) Coming of Age, a mentoring and UU Identity experience, and (2) Our Whole Lives, sexuality education. These are voluntary programs which take place outside of Sunday morning curriculum.

Middle School Regional Activities

Our congregation also participates in regional middle school activities throughout the year with other UU congregations in central Pennsylvania. Through field trips and projects, middle schoolers develop friendships with a UU cohort beyond our congregation.

Youth Group (Grades 9-12)

Honoring the independent spirit of youth, this group is self-directed under the guidance of a trained adult Youth Advisor and will explore various aspects of world religions, Unitarian Universalism and social action. Fun is included along the way!!!

Peacemaker Camp

This summer sleep-over camp for kids (& families) began in 2000. After September 11, 2001, the camp was named the Peacemaker Camp. Most years it has had some focus on peacemaking activities— either as history lessons, such as a tour of Underground Railroad sites, or activities, such as team-building or conflict resolution activities. It provides a relaxed and rustic setting near Pine Grove Furnace State Park where kids can be themselves and commune with nature. Typical activities include hikes, biking to the lake, canoeing, stargazing, and writing/reading poetry.
