January 2012: Upcoming Services
January 1: 10:30 a.m. | “New Year's Resolutions: The Good, The Bad, and The Beautiful.”
Eric Murr and Jill Kachmar, Worship Associates. Music by David Glasgow.
What makes for a good resolution? What makes for a bad one? Should we make them at all? Making a good New Year's resolution, or any resolution at all, for that matter, and "succeeding" is more about self-knowledge and self-love than anything else.
January 8: 10:30 a.m. | “Tolling and Renewing: A Service of Loss and New Beginnings.”
Rev. Roy and Bev Motich, Worship Associate, co-led service. Music offered by David Glasgow.
This service carries forward the tradition of 'Tolling the Bells' adding a liturgy of new beginnings; a way of honoring loss and embracing the year by opening to yearnings and hope.
January 15: 10:30 a.m. | “Let Justice Ring.”
Rev. Roy service, Dan Cozort as Worship Associate. Music by the UUCV Choir.
Starting with a story of justice-seeking in a community where MLK, Jr.'s memory is devoid of progressive values, this service moves to embrace and live the fullness of social justice here in the Cumberland Valley. The UUCV choir will sing "Lean on Me" by Kirk Franklin. A goodbye gathering for Jan Ruby follows the service.
January 22: 10:30 a.m. | “Just Sign the Book.”
Rev. Roy service. Nate MacDicken, Worship Associate. Pat Spader, pianist.
The benefits and expectations of UU membership are an often-muddled matter. Rev. Reynolds will offer his vision of healthy and engaged membership; a view that will challenge and yet move membership involvement to a place of deep satisfaction and meaning. This service will include a New Member Ingathering. If you are considering membership, please contact Gail Black or Carole MacAnulty.
January 29: 10:30 a.m. | “Listening with Our Hearts.”
Worship Associates' service. Dot Everhart with Small Group Ministry Groups. Pat Spader as pianist.
We'll celebrate the UUCV Small Group Ministry while sharing the small group experience through elements in the service liturgy (covenant, check-in, topic questions, attentive listening, and check-out). Worshipers will see firsthand how SGM nurtures the spiritual life of UUCV through deep listening and unconditional love. We hope that some decide to enhance their self-development, deepen their spiritual capacities, and experience community intimacy through SGM participation.
